Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence was founded in the year 2000 in response to the shootings at Columbine High School. MCAHV takes the lead on the advocacy for common sense firearm legislation in Augusta.
The Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence Foundation (MCAHVF) acts as a "sister" corporation and qualifies as a 501(c)3 under the Internal Revenue Service code. MCAHVF focuses on research, educational programs, and firearm injury prevention projects such as the Gun Lock Giveaway.
