Legislation and Policy
MCAHV (c4) is the legislative arm of Maine Citizens. Here is where we work on passing laws that make it more difficult for criminals and felons to purchase or possess weapons.

3 actions you can take to make Maine safer and honor victims
If you have been following the news, you might know about the vigilante shooting of Trayvon Martin, a Florida teen, who was on his way home from buying Skittles at the corner store while talking to his girlfriend on his cell phone.
Tell Senators Snowe and Collins to OPPOSE the "George Zimmerman Armed Vigilante Act of 2012"
George Zimmerman armed with a 9mm hand gun and out weighing Trayvon Martin by roughly 100 pounds according to reports shot and killed the teen claiming self defense.
George Zimmerman killed a teenager and destroyed a family because of weak concealed carry gun laws across the country, concealed carry laws that could effect Maine families. We have the right to keep our families safe from gun toting vigilantes.
Don't let NRA extremists dictate what Maine should do.
Call Senators Snowe (202-224-5344) and Collins (202-224-2523) TODAY and tell them: LD 1859 An Act to Protect Firearm Ownership during Times of Emergency prohibits a person acting under the authority of the State from restricting guns during a declared state of emergency. This bill also removes the power of the Governor to do the same.
The bill, being shopped around the US by the NRA is a direct result of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Having guns everywhere is a very dangerous response to any problem. During the aftermath of the storm there was abuse by law enforcement and by private gun owners - and demonstrated that a real emergency is chaotic, changing and challenging in every respect, and should be the last place for absolute, pre-determined and ideological remedies. We should not be making determinations for what should or should not be required for a future emergency, and the governor should have the freedom to work with local law enforcement to determine what is best during a state of emergency. As the killing of Trayvon Martin in Florida shows, vigilante justice is very poor justice indeed. This is a bill not driven by local, Maine concerns but by an outside organization pursuing its narrow political agenda. Maine law should be dictated by the will of the people not by an extremist faction from away.
• You’re a constituent.
• You strongly oppose the so-called “George Zimmerman Armed Vigilante bill" (S.2188), which would trample states' rights to decide who can carry a hidden, loaded gun.
• You side with mayors, police chiefs, and concerned Americans across the country -- not the out-of-touch gun lobby and urge them to do the same
Emergency bill to remove governor's power could encourage vigilantism
Contact your legislator (House) (Senate) today and tell them to OPPOSE LD 1859 which could endanger Mainers further during an already dangerous time.
